Beautiful Brands

The 2013 Yamaha Past Masters season closed out in fine style this weekend, with even the weather chipping in to make the most of the action on and off the track!

Dean "Deano" Stimpson had already secured the main championship win at Cadwell back in September, but he rocked up to celebrate with two further race wins in the first outings on Saturday (to take home the Paul Hogan Trophy) and Sunday. Ben "Smiley" Miles managed to run him close throughout the second race on Saturday for the Danny Whalin cup, before crossing the line to win by just 0.017 of a second. Super-fast rookie Matt "Not A....." Barber took his maiden main class win in the last race of the weekend while Deano sat things out to complete the deal for the sale of his immaculately prepared championship winning bike. Ben picked up a couple of second place pots over the weekend too, plus a crash at Graham Hill in the first race on Sunday, while Matt also collected a second place pot in the first of the Sunday races. The third step was shared between Pete "Moot" Moore, Matt, exiting 2012 champion Graham "Higgy" Higlett and Doug "BBQ" Edmondson.

Cadders Championship Climax

Dean "Deano" Stimpson wrapped up the 2013 DFDS Yamaha Past Masters championship win in the first race of the weekend at a damp and tricky Cadwell Park, clearing off from pole position and taking enough points to make his overall tally for the season unassailable.

Deano then sat out the rest of the meeting, although it's not clear if this was to let the rest of the field get more of a look in for a winners pot, or maybe a thick head after a night of celebration!! Having already advertised his immaculately prepared and maintained bike for sale might have had something to do with this too, especially as the conditions looked like being difficult and variable for the rest of the weekend. It will be interesting to see what 2014 brings for our championship winner – it's already known that staying with two strokes is on the cards, but it's not 100% clear which bike or championship he's going to be heading for.

Brands GP Update

Dean “Deano” Stimpson kept up his season long domination of the DFDS Seaways Yamaha Past Masters this weekend at Brands, taking a magnificent four wins on the magnificent GP circuit.

Best of the rest was Ben “Smiley” Miles who picked up a brace of three second place pots, with Doug “BBQ” Edmondson only getting onto the second step once to see the points gap to Deano in the overall championship grow to a surely unassailable 147 points – should see the title wrapped up at Cadders!! The pots for third place were shared in a similar way too, with Pete “Manx” Moore taking home three trophies, while Matt “Not A…..” Barber stepped in to pinch one when Pete suffered a DNF in the last race of the day when his #45 seized.

Deano Donny Domination

It was a clean sweep for championship leader Dean “Deano” Stimpson this weekend at Donington Park, with three clear wins, pole position and laps in the low 1.48’s being significantly better than the best of the rest in the field.

It’s not a circuit that the DFDS Seaways Yamaha Past Masters have raced at that often over the last few years, so circuit knowledge may be a bit light for the normal challengers for the podium, but Deano started off quick with a gap of around a second per lap to the nearest challenger in qualifying, and stretched this to two seconds per lap over the weekend in the races as various regulars from the field came and went.

Matt “Not A…..” Barber, Ben “Smiley” Miles and Doug “BBQ” Edmondson shared the smaller pots from the three races, but the nearest anyone got to Deano as the chequered flag fell was around 10 seconds. Looks like the 2013 title is nearly in the bag, although with a 95 point lead the job isn’t quite done yet.....
