Sons of Liberty

Aged Flag 2Our “Deep Throat” at Bemsee Towers today broke the news of a significant booking for the 2014 race season, with as yet unconfirmed reports suggesting that loud guitars, classic rock and an excuse for dressing up will be once again returning to the Hexagon at Brands Hatch for the mega end of season party-bash/piss-up thing on the 4th of October.

Marking a return to the type of celebration previously seen in 2010 and 2011 when Smoke & Mirrors rocked up a storm at the same venue, a new beat combo called Sons of Liberty have apparently been confirmed for 2014, with a series of coded emails and plain brown envelopes having been exchanged under the cover of passing on “season’s greetings” or some other Christmas/New Year related nonsense with Colonel M. Dommett of the 3rd Bemsee Rangers (Planning Division).

At the time of writing details are sketchy and almost everything seems purposely clouded in a blanket of confusion and subterfuge, but reading between the lines of the so far sketchy reports made available after two or three hard core late night drinking sessions, it seems like the night will have Southern Rock theme - with all the classics from Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet and the Black Crowes potentially included in the set, which based on the length of the guitar solo in the Skynyrd classic Freebird could go on for hours……………

Anyway, dust off them Dixie banners, Confederate jackets, Stetsons and snakeskin boots, ‘cause it’s gonna be a bourbon fuelled ho-down to remember!!

YPM On BikerFM

louis bebe barron greenwich village studioYPM is set to be featured on popular motorcycle-centric radio station BikerFM on Monday 3 February, with the station promising to go 'YPM crazy' from 8:30pm.

Opening with an interview with the British Motorcycle Racing Club's Mike Dommet, the show will then move on to all things YPM, discussing everything that makes the YPMRC what it is, and a look ahead to the 2014 season.

Interviewees will include Pete Fishwick, Matt Barber, Sacha Gyte, Kev Marshall and former racer and YPM marshal, Den Grant, with topics of discussion focussing on the essence of YPM and the spirit of the class, the club bike programme and bike-buying consortium.

Make sure you tune in, and spread the word with anyone else you know who could be interested in racing with YPM.

Club Bikes Booked For Donington

Both YPMRC Club Bikes have received their first bookings for the 2014 season, with both the TZR and 350LC booked up for the Donington round in June.

Jon Cockram from Oldbury will pilot the 350, and boasts prior racing experience, albeit on four wheels rather than two, and has decided to make the switch to bikes. And with a long-standing desire to race an RD350, YPM proved to be the ideal class.

Aboard the TZR will be Barry Drummond. Barry has also raced before and is looking for the ideal class to join, coming into things with a fondness for two-strokes.

Interest is high in both of the YPMRC Club Bikes, with both expected to be fully booked at each meeting. For more information and for the contact form, click here.

YPMRC 350 Club Bike

rd350clubbikeBuilding on the success of the TZR "club bike" that has been made available to test the YPM race water over the last couple of seasons, we can now officially report that a second bike will be available for 2014. And if more is better, it scores a double hit 'cause it's bigger too!

Yep, running alongside our now well established #100 TZR will be the recently acquired #102 LC/YPVS Hybrid, especially for those of you hankering after that extra splash of nostalgia with your on track two stroke race action. The bike is high spec too, with the powerful YPVS 350 engine mated to a sorted LC chassis, just like you owned for those trips to the pub back in the early-80's

The bike was actually prepared and raced by former YPM-er Rob Andrews, with help and guidance and general encouragement from our resident Hybrid specialists Steve "Higgsy" Higerty and Mark "Mungo" Prentice, so it's more than capable of getting in the mix with the rest of the YPM field. Please note, the necessary Harrington jacket, skinny jeans and Doc Martins needed to complete the retro-experience while chilling in the paddock are not supplied!!

Anyway, it's available for all eight meetings this year, with full technical and paddock support, access to the Bemsee practice day on the Friday, qualifying and four races over an extended weekend for an all-in charge of just £550.00. All you need to bring is your riding gear and your ACU licence, everything else will be provided.

Interest is expected to be high, so don't miss out - book your YPM Taster Weekend right now, further details here: http://www.ypmrc.co.uk/index.php/come-racing

YPM 2014 Season Preview

ypmdf7aAfter the final round of the season at Brands Hatch, the Yamaha Past Masters Racing Club still had the traditional Dinner & Dance and award ceremony to drink its way through, before also setting up a stand at this year's Motorcycle Live, which was executed with great success.

However, as we enter the new year, class attentions now turn toward the forthcoming season - or if they were already focused on 2014, it will now be with added sincerity. Casual tinkering in the garage will take on an added conviction, as the rush begins to get engines back from tuners and back into frames.

But while bikes lay in bits in sheds and across workshop floors, we thought we'd take a look at the runners and riders in 2014, and who to watch when it came to picking championship favourites.
