2014 YPMRC Award Winners

10712837 10152345608740060 8299951621437692940 nAlongside the more obvious champions and championship top-threes that receive their awards, the Yamaha Past Masters Club has always been sure to thank and reward those that give a little extra, whether that's through dedication to the club, or by crashing a lot.

At the final round at Brands Hatch, the assembled YPM riders and crews again gathered for a season-ending hog roast and their own awards ceremony.

Mark Silcox - Dedication To YPM

Despite never racing with the Yamaha Past Masters Racing Club, Mark Silcox - better known around the paddock as Billy - attends nearly every round. Booking his accommodation well in advance as soon as the calendar is announced, Billy also feeds a lot of the paddock with the cakes he brings, courtesy of his wife Alison. This year he also drove to collect the food for the annual Cadwell Curry.

Since suffering a big accident at Brands Hatch in 2009, which put paid to his racing exploits, Billy came to a number of YPM meetings with Tony Hoare. From there he got to know more and more people in the paddock. Setting up camp with the Sharpes and Paul Whitby, Billy spends his time putting bikes on and off stands, removing tyre warmers, helping with last minute wheel changes, and enjoying paddock life.

One of the more difficult years when it came to deciding on this year's Crasher of the Year award, with a number of riders all boasting the same number of crashes. Nominees included Tim Hall, Michael Stanley, Matt Barber (not least of all for crashing out of the lead at Oulton and his inclusion in the now infamous Melbourne Loop pile up), James Sharpe, Paul Whitby, and Graham Higlett.

However, Gyte was eventually awarded the trophy after crashing from bolt upright at Oulton Park, and for crashing at the final corner at Donington on the final lap from what would have been his best finish of the season. He admitted later to changing his line on the last lap to reflect other riders around him.

Pete Moore's TZR250 wasn't shy of a mechanical issue in in 2013. So for 2014 he spent the winter meticulously preparing it, treating it to nice new bodywork too. Many more mechanical issues and a couple of slides on its later, and you wouldn't know to look at.

Instead it was always clean, never held together with gaffer tape and cable ties, and always looking full factory.

Riding the 2013 championship-winning bike paid dividends for Paul Davies. Improving immediately, Davies spent the opening part of the season getting closer and closer to the front runners in the battle for the Clubman Championship.

By the Brands Hatch GP round, he had well and truly announced himself in the fight for Clubman wins, taking his first class victory in the final race of the weekend. From there he went on to take two more and a second at Snetterton, putting himself in contention for third place in the Clubman championship.

Unfortunately for Davies, a crash in the final race at Snetterton impacted his performance at the final round and he finished off the Clubman podium in fourth overall, but certainly showed that he will be one to watch in 2015.

Every rider who raced the Club Bike this season was eligible for the Yambits Club Bike award, with many factors coming in to play when deciding on a winner, including performance, enthusiasm, and fit within the YPMRC fold.

Again, a number of candidates were put forward, including Barry Drummond after taking the bike to its first Rookie class win at Donington Park. However, it was eventually awarded to Lee Huff. After a string of impressive performances at Cadwell Park - and a crash - Huff then went and put himself on the grid for the final round of the championship on the bike he will race in 2015.

Every season the YPM Marhsals of Den, Nicki and Scott Grant present their own YPM Marshal award, based on a number of categories. For 2014, this was awarded to Clubman runner-up James Sharpe.

"The YPM Marshal award is awarded in memory of Sophie," Den explains. " Sophie came to racing as part of our family to support me when I was racing in YPM in 2005.

"Sophie died in 2010 in her sleep when she was 17 and we ask the riders to wear a sunflower sticker with a smile, to give us a smile just like she had.

"We wanted to do something fun for Sophie's memory and thought of having an award for things that we talked about on the way home, just like we did on long journeys back from circuits when I was racing; the things that made us smile during the weekend. Silly things like riders waving at each other whilst over taking, a rider helping pick their bike up after a little spill.

"This year the award goes to Jamie ' I will try and remember to wave' Sharpe. He had a varied year's racing where he managed to scare us at Silverstone with a big wobble, had mechanical problems and a few spills too. But we also witnessed some very good results and some special overtaking of his fellow racers and family members."

2015 YPMRC Clothing Now Available

YPM clothing 2015The latest clothing lines from the Yamaha Past Master Racing Club are now available to order online, with both t-shirts and polo shirts up for grabs.

Available in three colours - red with white print, yellow with black print, or black with white print - the new items cost £15 and come in both male and female sizes and a choice of either a V-neck design or crew-neck.

Polo shirts come with an embroidered logo, while the t-shirts are screen printed. £2.50 from the sale of each garment will go toward the YPMRC fund, to help with covering things such as Club Bike costs.

Orders can be placed online with items available for collection at race meetings throughout the year, or delivered for £4.95 per consignment.

Annual Dinner Dance Closes 2014 Season

DinnerDance2014WinnersThe British Motorcycle Racing Club's annual Dinner Dance again capped-off a fantastic season's racing, with the Yamaha Past Masters Racing Club joining in with the celebrations and crowning this year's champions.

Collecting the 2014 championship trophy was Graham Higlett. The 2012 champion started the season as favourite, and showed he meant business from the off, going on an unprecedented winning run that eventually came to an end at Cadwell Park when Pete Moore took off like a scalded cat and stormed to his first YPMRC win.

Joining Higlett on the podium was Matt Barber and Doug Edmondson, the pair going toe-to-toe over the course of the season for that runner-up spot, with the outcome decided at the final round.

Barber's infectious grin and happy-go-lucky approach to his racing - evident from his first foray on the Yambits Club Bike in 2012 - has made him a paddock favourite, backed up by a sometimes wild but always fast style on track. On for his first win of the season at Oulton Park, he crashed out in the changing conditions, handing victory to Higlett. However, he made it to the top step of the podium at the final round at Brands Hatch.

Edmondson was another tipped for championship contention at the start of the season. Battling at the sharp end throughout the year, by the middle of the season it looked as though he might be the only one to catch Higlett. Edmondson got himself on the top step of the podium at the final round, but it wasn't enough to stop Barber taking the runner-up spot overall.

DinnerDance2014ClubmanThe Yamaha Past Masters Clubman championship was set for a showdown at the season finale, with Trevor Sharpe arriving with just a 13 point advantage over James Sharpe. However, in the end Trevor Sharpe was crowned champion before the turn of a racing wheel, with James Sharpe missing the action after a crash in Friday Practice and with no one else capable of catching him.

James Sharpe finished second on the overall Clubman podium, with Paul Whitby rounding out the top three after getting the better of Paul Davies at final round, the pair still scrapping for the final rostrum position until the last race.

Trevor Sharpe was also awarded the Danny Whalin trophy. Danny Whalin raced with the Yamaha Past Masters with his father Len Whalin. Danny sadly lost his life to the sport, but each year an award is presented to someone Len and daughter Chloe nominate for their services and dedication to the club.

In the Rookie class of 2014, Michael Stanley took the honours. After a steady start to his Rookie campaign, Stanley's run of form in the second half of the season saw him regularly competiting nearer the front, and he will definitely be one to watch in the Clubman Championship in 2015.

DinnerDance2014RookiesTim Hall - pictured attempting to wrestle the gong from Stanley - finished third overall in the class after an up and down season that saw him riding four bikes over the course of the year. However, he will be back in 2015 on a freshly acquired TZR250. Taking Rookie class wins this year, he will be looking to give a good account of himself next season. Sacha Gyte, finished second in the Rookie class but couldn't make the end of season party. But he too will return for 2015.

The British Motorcycle Racing Club's Open Day will take place on the 14th of December, with fresh rookies taking the necessary steps and filling out the necessary paperwork to attend the Rookie Day in February with a view to obtaining their ACU licence. Full details can be found here.

Barber Extends Series Lead With Silverstone Domination

Silverstone 2015 01Matt Barber dominated the second round of the DFDS Seaways Yamaha Past Masters series at Silverstone, storming to victory in all three races. He looked set to win all four scheduled races based on his weekend's form, however an oil spill in another class rendered the track unsafe, with the last race abandoned. It will be rescheduled for a future round.

Barber was taking part in his first race meeting on the Silverstone International circuit having missed the club's round at the venue in 2014. However, it didn't take him long to find his way around, the former YPMRC Rookie champion qualifying on pole and setting a time nearly one and a half seconds faster than reigning champion Graham Higlett, who started second on the grid. Doug Edmondson completed the front row despite a high-speed crash at turn one in Saturday's qualifying session.

Pete Moore qualified fourth ahead of Scott Grant, who looked odds-on for another winning weekend in the Rookie class, while Sacha Gyte qualified sixth and fastest Clubman.

But it was the Barber show as the lights went out for the first race. Moore held the advantage after the first lap, but after Barber found his way past he was never headed, going on to take the win by nearly four seconds. Moore was second with Higlett third.

Fourth went the way of Gyte, who put in an excellent ride to take his second Clubman win of the season, as he crossed the line just one tenth of a second ahead of Andy Davies, as the pair went at it throughout the entire race.

Scott Grant's sixth handed him another Rookie class win, his fifth in five races, as Marc Prentice and Paul Whitby completed the Clubman podium in seventh and eighth. Steve Higerty, who took three Clubman wins at Snetterton, finished ninth with Rooke Lee Huff completing the top 10, as he got the better of a confidence-shaken Edmondson.

Silverstone 2015 02Barber's victory in race two came a huge eight seconds ahead of the chasing pack, with Higlett and Moore reversing positions on the second and third steps of the podium. Davies was fourth while Edmondson rediscovered some form to come through the pack to finish fifth.

However, Edmondson's fifth came after a huge scrap involving six riders. Edmondson made the move for fifth on the last lap at the chicane, as six riders sorted out the finishing order in exciting fashion. Whitby benefited from the last lap carnage too, taking sixth and his first Clubman win of the season, while Grant was shuffled back to seventh, but took the Rookie win.

Gyte, who'd held fifth for much of the race, ended up in eighth and second Clubman with Prentice ninth and third Clubman and Higerty 10th.

The third - and sadly final - race of the weekend, saw Barber complete his  domination. He led the way before the red flags came out at the halfway stage. When the race restarted as a five lap sprint, he still managed to pull out a seven and a half second lead.

Behind, Higlett bettered Davies by half a second, as the pair finished second and thid. Behind, Moore finished fourth, narrowling beating Grant by less than a tenth of a second. Grant was again the leading Rookie in fifth.

After a weekend of mechanical woes, Ben Miles finally finished a race, crossing the line in sixth after coming from the back of the grid. Gyte was seventh and lead Clubman ahead of Whitby and Edmondson, with Michael Stanley breaking in to the top 10 after rectifying a stator issue that had plagued him all weekend.

Barber, who arrived at the Northamptonshire circit with the series lead extended it with his three wins. The abandoned fourth race will be rescheduled and ran at a future meeting.

The next round of the DFDS Seaways Yamaha Past Masters championship takes place at Oulton Park on May 29-30.

Barber Hat-Trick At Brands But Higlett's Not Out Yet

Barber BrandsGP 2015Matt Barber's hat-trick of wins at Brands Hatch and round six of the DFDS Seaways Yamaha Past Masters championship extended his series lead, but reigning champion Higlett showed he's still fighting to retain his crown.

Championship leader Barber qualified on pole, and hit the front at the start of the weekend's opening race, with Higlett in tow. Higlett made a move for the lead in the early stages, but was sadly forced to retire almost immediately after with mechanical issues. Higlett's retirement allowed Barber to pull out a commanding lead of nearly 11 seconds at the chequered flag, as he took his first win of the weekend.

Second went the way of Pete Moore, the Manxman locked in a race-long scrap with Pete Fishwick, the former race-winner and YPMRC stalwart making a wild-card appearance. It set the tone for the whole weekend, with the pair inseperable around the famous Brands Hatch GP circuit. Just five hundredths of a second split the pair at the line, as one of the closest battles all season confirmed the podium finishers.

Doug Edmondson finished fourth, narrowly fending off the attentions of rookie and hot prospect Scott Grant - Grant would go on to receive the British Motorcycle Racing Club's Sir Ben Ball Trophy as its 'tip for the top'. Grant also secured yet another Rookie class win.

BrandsGP 2015Behind the top five raged a battle for top Clubman honours, with nothing to choose between Paul Whitby, Sacha Gyte, Paul Toland (who was also making a wild-card appearance this weekend) and Steve Higerty.

After a sluggish start to the season for Whitby by his own standards, he hit a rich vein of form at Brands, and after a four-way scrap for the number one Clubman spot, he managed to pull out a gap of over one and half seconds to take the class win in sixth place.

Following him across the line were the other three, all looking to fill the Clubman class podium, with Gyte and Higerty also very much with an eye on this year's championship. Less than half a second covered the drag to the line, with Gyte and Toland seventh and eighth and second and third in class. Steve Higerty took ninth while his brother Kevin Higerty, still returning after a serious back injury sustained last season, finished in a lonely 10th place.

Race two and Barber again raced unchallenged to victory, but the impressive ride of the race went to Higlett, who came through from the back of the grid to finish second, just five seconds adrift of Barber.

The battle for third saw Moore and Fishwick reignite the fire from race one, however this time they were joined by Grant, making it a three-way fight for third.

Moore Fishwick BrandsGP 2015It was Fishwick who held second early on, and when Higlett passed him he still retained third for much of the race. Unfortunately for him he was eventually passed by Moore before Grant also made a pass stick. It ended up in another drag for the line, with Moore taking third by six hundredths of a second fromt Grant, while Fishwck was just seven hundredths further back on the Rookie class winner.

Sixth and the Clubman win again went to Whitby, as three tenths of a second covered the class podium, this time with Toland seventh and Gyte eighth. Steve Higerty dropped of the fight for the class podium in the closing stages but still finished ninth.

10th went to Paul Henson, as he dragged himself clear of a tense dice with Giles Harwood, Kevin Higerty and Paul Davies, who finished 11th, 12th and 13th respectively.

With the final round of the championship taking place at Snetterton this season, the club's annual hog-roast was rescheduled for the Brands Hatch GP round, with riders past and present enjoying a social evening in the paddock, with funds also raised for Club Fat Boy, to help former rider Craig Jennings.

Clearly not too full of boar on Sunday morning however was Barber, as he raced to his third win of the weekend, seeing off the attentions of Higlett to take the win by two seconds and further extend his series lead.

After shadowing Higlett for much of the race Grant began to lose ground on the reigning champion, but looked like he had third in the bag. However, pushing too hard, he lost the front on the final lap at Westfield and crashed out. That meant Fishwick and Moore's battle suddenly became for the final rostrum spot, with Fishwick claiming it by three hundredths of a second.

Gyte BrandsGP 2015After a DNF in race two, Edmondson came from the back of the grid to finish fifth, ahead of the ongoing Clubman tussle. Gyte took the class win and finished sixth, while Michael Stanley, after a round (and pretty much a season to date) of mechanical woes, finished a tenth further back in seventh and was second Clubman. Paul Whitby finished eighth and rounded out the Clubman podium.

Giles Harwood muscled his way into the top 10 and finished ninth, also taking the Rookie class win along the way, with Kevin Higerty just behind him in 10th. 

The final race of the weekend saw Higlett return to winning ways, as he beat Barber by just a tenth of a second to show he's still in with a shout of the championship, setting the fastest lap of the weekend on the final lap of the race along the way. Barber had led every lap throughout the race, but Higlett led the one that mattered to prevent a Barber clean-sweep.

Third went to Fishwick, after a mistake on the final lap by Moore meant he crossed the line nearly four seconds further back. After a DNF in Sunday's opener, Toland recovered to come through and take the Clubman class win in fifth, with Stanley and Gyte sixth and seventh and second and third in class.

Whitby finished eighth ahead of Harwood, who took the Rookie win, and Kevin Higerty. Steve Higerty made it two DNFs for the day, adding to his crash from the earlier race with a mechanical retirement in the final race.

The next round of the DFDS Seaways Yamaha Past Masters takes place at Cadwell Park on September 4-6.

Barber Secures Maiden YPMRC Title

11225332 738031699636923 4759276059245014235 oMatt Barber secured his maiden DFDS Seaways Yamaha Past Masters Racing Club championship title at the penultimate round at Brands Hatch, in what has been a dominant year for the former Rookie champion.

Barber, who started racing in the club after a weekend onboard the Yambits-sponsored Club Bike experience in 2012, has been untouchable for much of the season, taking his tally of victories to 18 at Brands Hatch, and wrapping up the title with a round to spare.

Coming off the back of a clean-sweep of victories at Cadwell Park, Barber started Brands Hatch the right way by qualifying on pole position, after the fog that saw a race lost from Saturday's schedule had cleared.

And he looked on course to take victory in the first race, leading the way in the opening stages. However, he was soon passed by Doug Edmondson, before also being passed by a returning Rik Ballerini, racing onboard the number-seven plated, Triple X Racing TZR250.

Edmondson pulled out nearly a second's advantage at the front, but was quickly reeled in by Ballerini, who made a move for the lead on lap on lap seven. All the while this was going on Higlett was making progress from his fifth placed qualifying spot, and passed Barber for third and then Edmondson for second on lap eight.

However, he couldn't do anything about race leader Ballerini, who crossed the line to take the win with Higlett in second, Edmondson in third, and Barber in fourth.

Sacha Gyte was also crowned the YPMRC Clubman champion the same weekend, his first year in the running after his rookie season in 2014.

12087052 738031666303593 3474830963218989797 oGyte added another Clubman class win to his tally in the opening race, after a fierce battle with his title challenger Paul Whitby and returning Manx Grand Prix finisher Peter Moore.

Gyte crossed the line in fifth for the Clubman win, with Moore sixth and Whitby seventh and second in the Clubman class.

Andy Davies finished eighth ahead of Rookie class winner Scott Grant, with fellow rookie Giles Harwood 10th, just ahead of Tim Hall, who set his fastest ever lap of the Brands Hatch Indy circuit.

The second race of the day was cancelled due to the earlier fog, however, the club still managed to fit in the held over race from the Silverstone round earlier in the season.

Barber took the win from Higlett and Edmondson, while Gyte took another Clubman class win and Grant added another Rookie first place trophy to his collection.

Sunday saw the schedule return to normal, and had two 12-lap races in store.

Starting from pole position, Ballerini took the lead on the opening lap, but was soon passed Barber on lap two. From there, the new champion was never headed, and recorded another victory.

Ballerini took second, eventually pulling out an eight second gap on Higlett in third place, who came out on top in the battle for the final podium spot.

Pete Moore was sixth with Giles Harwood seventh and the leading Rookie. Less than two hundredths of a second back was Davies in eighth, while only three tenths further back again was Whitby, who took second in the Clubman class. Grant completed the top 10 and was second Rookie.

Just one second covered the podium in the final race of the weekend, but this time it was Ballerini on the top step of the podium again, flanked by Barber and Higlett at the chequered flag.

Edmondson was in contention for a podium finish in the early laps, and held second in the opening stages before dropping to third. However, a mistake on lap five cost him too much time to ever make up again, and he ended the race in a lonely fourth place.

Moore was fifth after a battle with fellow Manx Grand Prix finisher, albeit this time in 2014, Davies, who finished sixth.

Whitby finished seventh and took the Clubman class win, but it was a case of too little too late in terms of the championship, ahead of Harwood who took another Rookie win in eighth place. New Clubman champion Gyte took ninth place, with Grant completing the top 10 and taking 20 Rookie championship points.

The DFDS Seaways Yamaha Past Masters Racing Club heads to Snetterton for the final round of the series, with practice getting underway on Friday 23 October, before qualifying and racing action takes places on 24-25 October.

Barry Drummond Takes Club Bike To Rookie Class Win

Drummond WinBarry Drummond took the YPMRC Club Bike to victory in race one at Donington Park at the weekend, finishing as the highest Rookie with an eighth placed finish overall.

Drummond enjoyed a race-long battle with more established riders in the field, swapping places with Rookie championship hopeful Michael Stanley, as well as Clubman riders Trevor Sharpe, Paul Davies, and John Walker.

He was presented with his winner's trophy at the usual Saturday night award ceremony in front of the rest of the paddock, where he received a rousing round of applause from the gathered YPMRC members and other classes alike.

Champions Decided At Final Round

BrandsIndy01With Graham Higlett already crowned this year's DFDS Seaways Yamaha Past Masters Champion, the final round at Brands Hatch was still the scene for the battle for second in the championship standings, as well as Clubman and Rookie honours.

The Clubman championship was one battle that was set to go to the wire, with just 13 points separating Trevor Sharpe and James Sharpe. However, a crash in Friday practice ruled James Sharpe out of the weekend's races, handing the Clubman championship to Trevor Sharpe, with no one else able of overhauling his lead.

The Rookie class however, was far from decided, with 64 separating Michael Stanley and Sacha Gyte at the top, and it was Gyte who started the right way in the rain in Saturday's opening encounter, finishing eighth and lead Rookie ahead of Lee Huff, another Rookie who rode the Yambits Club Bike at Cadwell Park. Stanley finished 12th and third Rookie, giving away nine points to Gyte.

At the front Dan Wright, back for his second race of the season and looking good at the front, crashed out of the lead, handing victory to Doug Edmondson, who ended up cruising to the win by six seconds, finishing ahead of Matt Barber, the pair both aiming for second in the overall championship. Emma Jarman, having her first ride in the class also crashed out on Pete Fishwick's TZR250.

Higlett finished third, just a tenth of a second ahead of a returning Steve King. Kevin Marshall finished lead Clubman after an excellent ride, and rounded out the top five. Len Whalin finished seventh behind Pete Moore and second Clubman. Trevor Sharpe finished tenth and completed the Clubman podium.

BrandsIndy02Saturday's second race was another rain-soaked affair, and Stanley's hunt for the Rookie championship took another hit. As the pack charged towards Paddock Hill for the first time, Stanley's over-exurberance on the throttle saw the rear let go, and as he slid towards the gravel, he skittled the unlucky Paul Bowling and Nick Kennet.

With all the riders up and okay, Gyte rode to the Rookie class win in eighth, putting a further 25 points in Stanley's class lead. At the front, Matt Barber fended off Edmondson for the race win in the battle for second in the championship, with Wright coming through the pack to finish on the podium in third. King finished fourth ahead of the lead Clubman, Marshall.

Jarman also came through the field to finish sixth ahead of Moore, Gyte, Paul Davies and Whalin, while newly-crowned champion Higlett crashed out on lap five.

In contrast to Saturday's water-logged affair, Sunday was positively glorious. With the field full from the paddock hogroast the nightbefore, the day's opening 10-lap race saw King take the win, closely followd by Barber and Wright. Edmondson finished fourth ahead of Jarman, who crossed the line in fifth and ahead of Higlett in sixth. Moore finished seventh with a jump-start penalty, however it didn't affect the result, with Stanley eighth and lead rookie.

Paul Whitby took his first Clubman win of the weekend in his fight to regain third in the Clubman standings, finishing ninth ahead of Marshall with Whalin third Clubman in 11th.

BrandsIndy03In the final race Barber cemented second place in the 2014 championship standings after a race-long dice with King. Barber took the win by just over a tenth of a second. Edmondson took third, coming out on top in a three-way battle for the final spot on the podium. Behind him finished Moore and Wright.

Higlett and Jarman finishd sixth and seventh, with Marshall taking his third Clubman win of the weekend in eighth after what has been a challenging season for the Derbyshireman. Stanley finished behind him as lead Rookie in ninth, ensuring he was crowned the 2014 YPMRC Rookie champion, with Whitby rounding out the top 10 and claiming second Clubman. With Davies finishing fifth Clubman, it was enough for Whitby to secure the final spot on the Clubman championship podium.

The annual BMCRC Dinner Dance takes place on 15 November at the Ashford International Hotel, where the champions will be presented with their trophies.

Club Bike Gets First Bookings Of 2015

Club Bike Booking2015 01The Yambits club bike has already received its first bookings for the forthcoming season, with three of the nine available rounds secured by riders looking to get a taste of the Yamaha Past Masters Racing Club.

The second round of the 2015 calendar at Silverstone has been booked by Michael Brown from Solihul, who boasts a season of formula 600 racing under his belt from his early 20s.

No stranger to track days, Michael's interest in YPM stems from past ownership of a TZR250 3MA, which he openly admits is his favourite bike.

He will get his first experience with the YPMRC at Silverstone in May.

Also signed up for the Yambits-sponsored TZR250 club bike in 2015 is Graeme Smith from Macclesfield, who did a round of the MZ experience in 2014, but sees YPM as more of the class for him, and Paul Middleton, who has secured the Brands Hatch GP round.

Paul, from Surrey, has experience of the Brands Hatch GP circuit and was looking at a number of classes to join next season.

However, he settled on YPM, saying, "I'd been looking at YPM and the Ducati Desmo Championship too.

"YPM looked better I think as it emphasises the atmosphere, whereas the other guys seem purely obsessed with their bikes.

"Ultimately I'm in it to have fun and learn plus I've always wanted to try a two stroke road bike."

Club Bikes Booked For Donington

Both YPMRC Club Bikes have received their first bookings for the 2014 season, with both the TZR and 350LC booked up for the Donington round in June.

Jon Cockram from Oldbury will pilot the 350, and boasts prior racing experience, albeit on four wheels rather than two, and has decided to make the switch to bikes. And with a long-standing desire to race an RD350, YPM proved to be the ideal class.

Aboard the TZR will be Barry Drummond. Barry has also raced before and is looking for the ideal class to join, coming into things with a fondness for two-strokes.

Davies breaks Johnson winning run but 'AJ' extends series lead

B12H0203Andy Davies broke series leader Anthony Johnson's winning run at Cadwell Park, after Johnson had dominated the opening round of the DFDS Yamaha Past Masters series at Brands Hatch. However, despite Davies' victory, 'AJ' further extended his series lead after taking three wins around the Lincolnshire circuit.

His weekend started with a third place in race one, after the first attempt to run the race was red-flagged. Re-started in wet conditions, Davies broke away from the rest of the field to take a commanding win ahead of Scott Grant, with Johnson third.

Johnson returned to dominant form for the three remaining races of the weekend, winning Saturday’s second race by over 20 seconds from Grant and Davies. He then won both of Sunday’s races beating Davies and Grant in race one, before finishing ahead of Doug Edmondson and Grant in the final race.


Lee Huff took a trio of wins in the Clubman class, with a best finish of eighth in race one. The other class win went to Steve Redhead in race two, as he crossed the line in the points 13th place. Alan Wood and Douglas Beacock shared the Rookie spoils, with two wins apiece.

Donington Park Round Dropped From Calendar

Donington 2014 StartThe Donington Park round of the 2015 season, scheduled for 20-21 June, has been cancelled following the circuit's own commitments to this year's British Grand Prix.

The circuit, which hosts a British Grand Prix this year for the first time since 2009, has been instructed to carry out a full resurfacing prior to the event. With the process requiring two weeks to complete, and also at a time when ambient temperatures are higher than they have been during the off-season, the fourth round of the DFDS Seaways sponsored Yamaha Past Masters series has been rescheduled.

However, the 2015 season will continue to run over nine rounds, with Cadwell Park replacing the Donington Park meeting. The rescheduled round will take place at the glorious Lincolnshire venue the week prior, with racing on 13-14 June, with Friday practice available on the June 12. It will also mean two visits to Cadwell Park for the YPMRC in 2015.

Donington Park Circuit Manager, Bob Adams, said, "It's been a very difficult decision. The way the dates fell for the necessary circuit work has, in the end, meant we’ve had to let down a regular customer in the British Motorcycle Racing Club (Bemsee).

"For that we are really sorry, but we hope to be able to make up for this in the future."

Bemsee CEO, Mike Dommett said, "The unexpected news relating to our scheduled date with Donington has caused us difficulties, but we are grateful to the circuit management team in advising us as soon as it became apparent that there was an issue."

Cadwell Announcement 2015Speaking on the replacement round at Cadwell Park, he added, "The Club is grateful to MSV for its assistance in offering this fallback at late notice during a period where the majority of circuits are already fully booked some months ago."

Grant takes fight to series leader Johnson

B12H6922It looked as though usual service would be resumed in the DFDS Yamaha Past Masters, with series leader Anthony Johnson qualifying on pole position, coming off the back of another dominant weekend at Silverstone.

However, he was challenged by former Rookie champion Scott Grant in race one, with the featherweight youngster hanging on to take the win by six hundredths of a second as the pair drag-raced to the line.

Doug Edmondson came out on top in the battle for third, holding off Neil MacQueen. Michael Stanley’s Prentice’s 12th gave him the Clubman win, with Rookie honours going to Alan Wood in 16th.

B12H2838A downpour prior to race two made for some last minute decisions on tyre choice, with Edmondson and Paul Toland forced to pull in on the warm-up lap having opted for wets. With the race run on a dry track, Johnson and MacQueen battled at the front, before Johnson began to stretch his advantage. A mistake for MacQueen on the last lap assured Johnson of victory, with MacQueen taking second, as Grant took third.

Stanley picked up another 25 points in the Clubman championship in sixth, with Wood’s 11th enough for the Rookie spoils.

Johnson doubled up with a win in race three ahead of Grant and Giles Harwood, but a DNF in race four left MacQueen to take victory. Edmondson took second, bettering Grant, who took third. There were two more Clubman wins for Stanley, with seventh and eighth placed finishes, with Wood and Paul Godbold taking a Rookie win each.

Gyte Shines At Treacherous Cadwell

Cadwell 2015 01A soaking wet Cadwell Park and round four of the DFDS Seaways Yamaha Past Masters series saw Clubman championship hopeful Sacha Gyte shine through the treachourous conditions to take three clubman class wins and his first ever overall podiums, as he came away with a third and two seconds.

Gyte qualified on the front row on Saturday morning, behind Graham Higlett and pole-sitter and series leader Matt Barber, and converted it into a podium finish in the first race, finishing third. It was his first YPMRC podium and earned him the Clubman win.

Out front, Barber pulled a commanding lead and sailed to victory, crossing the line some 18 seconds ahead of  second place, which went the way of returning fan-favourite Pete Fishwick.

Fishwick qualified on the second row in fifth but came through to third place in the early stages. He eventually passed Gyte, who sat second, on lap three, and held the position to the chequered flag.

Gyte finished third but came under fire from Ben Miles in the closing stages. After two slower circulations for Gyte, Miles found himself right on the back of the 33-plated TZR250, the pair split by just two hundedths of a second at the chequered flag.

Marc Prentice finished in a lonely fifth place but took second in the Clubman classification, ahead of Andrew Davies and Richard Sawyer, the former YPMRC Rookie and Clubman champion also returning for a one-off ride. The final spot on the Clubman podium went to Steve Higerty in eighth, as he finished just ahead of last year's Rookie champion Michael Stanley, with Trevor Sharpe, the reigning Clubman champion and also guesting this weekend, finishing 10th. Lee Huff's 11th saw him take the Rookie class win.

Race two followed a similar pattern to race one out front, with Barber taking a comfortable win, this time with a winning margin of six seconds. And it was both Fishwick and Gyte who again stood on the podium with him at the end of the race. This time however, Gyte managed to put an eight second gap into Fishwick and take an excellent second place and another Clubman win.

11402722 692241530882607 2739103880420016584 nFourth went to Davies on the Gibson Exhausts Yamaha. Sadly the race didn't fare so well for his teammate Miles, who retired on the last lap.

The Wave Racing duo of Doug Edmondson and Steve Higerty were fifth and sixth consecutively, with Higerty second in the Clubman results. Higlett was seventh after a scrap with Sharpe, who finished eighth and third in the Clubman category. Ninth went to Huff who took another Rookie race win while fellow Rookie Giles Harwood completed the top 10.

The bad weather remained on Sunday, but it did little to dampen Barber's spirits or his form, as he streaked to another win and completed his hat-trick. After following Gyte for the opening lap he made his move and hit the front, pulling a 14 second gap by the time the chequered flag came out.

Gyte looked a dead cert for second place, but a last lap mistake nearly gave Davies the opportunity he needed to snatch the position away from last year's Rookie runner-up. Gyte held on though, despite less than a second covering them at the flag. It was also Gyte's third Clubman class win of the weekend.

Edmondson crossed the line in fourth but was handed a 10-second penalty for a yellow flag infringement, along with his teammate Higerty. That elevated Higlett to fourth and Miles to fifth, with Edmondson classified sixth.

Giles Harwood took an excellent seventh and the Rookie win, with Higerty relegated to eighth. He picked up a second place Clubman trophy. Sharpe was ninth and third Clubman with Stanley 10th.

The final race of the weekend saw Barber's win-streak broken as Davies took an excellent win. Barber was second and further extended his series lead, while Harwood took a superb third place albeit a lonely one after Gyte crashed out at the Gooseneck giving chase. Harwood also took the Rookie win.

Higlett finished fourth with Higerty fifth and the leading Clubman, ahead of Paul Whitby, who needed a strong result to keep any Clubman championship hopes alive. He was the second Clubman rider home with Kevin Marshall seventh and third Clubman. Huff, Paul Davies and Robert Davies on the Yambits Club Bike completed the top 10.

Following a start-line incident in the final 400 race, which YPMRC bikes are eligible for, Ben Miles was airlifted to hospital. He remains there but with positive updates every day. He is now off sedation and breathing for himself, and everyone in the YPMRC paddock wishes him all the best.

Also involved in the accident were Martin Pearson and Michael Stanley. Pearson was taken to hospital but has since been discharched with no broken bones, while Stanley walked away from the accident but his bike was too badly damaged to make the final race.

The next round of the series heads to Pembrey on 10-12 July.

Hat-Trick For Higlett As Grant Takes First Podium

Higlett Pembrey 2015Graham Higlett took a hat-trick of victories at Pembrey for the fifth round of the DFDS Seaways Yamah Past Masters championship, his first of the season, with Doug Edmondson taking the other win in a wet race on Sunday.

But it was Scott Grant that was the name on everyone's lips on Saturday morning, the class rookie storming to pole position in qualifying, posting a lap time half a second quicker than Clubman championship hopefuly Steve Higerty and Higlett, who made up the front row.

In the opening race Grant took off from his pole grid spot and led the opening lap, but Higlett soon made his way past and took the race lead on lap two. From there he eeked out his advantage over the 10-lap race and took his first win of the 2015 campaign.

Behind Grant and Edmondson were left to settle the order of the remaining two podium positions, which saw the rookie finish second and Edmondson third. Marc Prentice headed a three-way fight for Clubman class honours, crossing the line in fourth place just half a second ahead of Paul Whitby and Steve Higerty, the trio filling the Clubman podium.

Paul Davies finished seventh but was pushed all the way by Lee Huff, who was the second rookie home, followed by third rookie Giles Harwood and Clubman Kev Higerty, who completed the top 10.

Grant Pembrey 2015Higlett took his second victory in race two, again pulling a commanding lead of seven seconds come the chequered flag. After taking an early lead, Edmondson had to settle for second place as he and Grant reversed their finishing positions from race one, with Grant again the leading rookie.

Sacha Gyte, who failed to finish the opening race with gear selector issues, came through from the back of the grid to finish fourth, and headed a four-rider train in the battle for Clubman honours. Half a second separated him from Prentice, with Steve Higerty and Whitby a further half a second back again.

Davies and Huff resumed their tussle from race one, this time with Huff coming out on top in the battle for eighth, as Kev Higerty again claimed another top 10 finish as he continues his return from the back injuries he sustained at Snetterton last year.

The overnight rain on Saturday made for a wet race on Sunday morning. Edmondson disappeared at the front and took an early lead, while Gyte worked his way through to second place. With 12 laps of the Pembrey circuit to chase down Edmondson, Gyte set about narrowing the gap. Unfortunately for him he couldn't make a pass on the race leader, and finished second but by less than two tenths of a second, but took the Clubman win.

JSweb RLMa0506Grant took another third place and the rookie win, with Prentice and Steve Higerty fourth and fifth and second and third in the Clubman class. Kevin Higerty climbed to sixth ahead of Lee Huff who led the five rider battle for seventh, as the class rookie crossed the line ahead of Whitby, Paul Hensen, Higlett and Davies.

With the track dry for the final race, Higlett returned to winning ways and completed his hat-trick, taking victory by nearly six seconds. Behind, Edmondson settled into second place, before being passed by Gyte and Grant. Despite dropping to fourth, Edmondson was hanging in there but a mistake on the penultimate lap cost him more than 10 seconds, and dropped him down to sixth at the chequered flag.

In the end, Paul Whitby took his best ever result of fourth and second place Clubman, fending off Steve Higerty who finished fifth and completed the Clubman podium. Edmondson's mistake dropped him to sixth but he managed to keep ahead of Prentice who finished seventh. Giles Harwood, Huff and Davies rounded out the top 10.

Higlett Crowned 2014 Champion

Higlett ChampGraham Higlett was crowned the 2014 DFDS Seaways Yamaha Past Masters champion this weekend at Snetterton, wrapping up the series with a round to go.

Higlett took both wins on Saturday, ensuring he could not be caught and claimed his second YPMRC title. He was pushed all the way, his first victory coming by seven hudredths of a second from Pete Moore. Matt Barber then pushed it close in the second outing.

With the championship already decided, Higlett then went out and won both of Sunday's races, setting his fastest lap of the weekend in the final race, where he stormed to victory by seven seconds.

Higlett was also crowned Formula 400 Sub-64 champion, too.

Higlett Dominates Eventful Donington

Donington Report01Graham Higlett dominated an eventful Donington Park meeting for the DFDS Seaways Yamaha Past Masters, taking all three wins and extending his 100% record this season.

At the previous round at Oulton Park it seemed the nearest challenger to Higlett's dominance was Matt Barber, who led the opening race before crashing out of the lead as the rain began to fall, handing the win to Higlett.

And it was Barber who again looked most likely to halt Higlett's winning run, qualifying on pole, three tenths of a second ahead of Pete Moore and half a second ahead of championship leader Higlett.

The opening race started how it would carry on. Contact at turn one on the opening lap saw Sacha Gyte and Paul Bowling head towards the gravel, with only Gyte able to rejoin. And as the field arrived at the Melbourne Loop on the opening lap, three of the front runners went down, handing the advantage to early race leader Higlett. Doug Edmondson, Moore and Barber were the three riders involved, allowing Higlett to ride to a comfortable victory, his 12th of the season.

More than half of the field failed to finish, or start, as was the unfortunate case for Pete Fishwick and Simon Braby, the pair plagued by mechanical gremlins. Also suffering from mechanical issues was Kev Marshall, who didn't complete a lap, before Martin Peason, Mark Elleray and Neil Hesman also retired early on.

With Andy Davies and Mike Wake riding lonely races in second and third and John Parbury looking secure in fourth, a titanic mid-pack battle emerged. Paul Whitby and James Sharpe battled it out for Clubman honours and fifth place, before Gyte recovered from his early off-track excursion and joined the fray. However, Rookie championship hopeful Gyte would crash out of fifth on the final lap at Goddards, handing the position to Whitby.

Behind those three was Trevor Sharpe, John Walker, Club Bike pilot Barry Drummond, Paul Davies and Michael Stanley, all providing the spectators with some superb racing. Walker unfortunately crashed out in the closing stages at McLean.

Donington Report02At the chequered flag Higlett took the win, 12 seconds ahead of Andy Davies, while Mike Wake took his first ever podium finish with an excellent third place.

Parbury was fourth ahead of the Clubman podium of Whitby, James Sharpe and Trevor Sharpe, with Drummond taking the win in the Rookie class after Gyte's crash.

Higlett was again the victor in Sunday's opener, crossing the line five seconds ahead of Barber, who came through from the back of the grid to finish second, leaving behind him a four-way scrap for the final podium position.

Andy Davies held the position for the majority of the race, but was pushed to the line by Edmondson, Fishwick and Moore, with just two seconds separating the four of them.

Parbury and Wake were seventh and eighth, before the battle for Clubman honours crossed the line, which saw Trevor Sharpe and Whitby locked in a battle for the race win throughout, half a second covering them at the line, with James Sharpe third Clubman in 11th.

Fourth and Fifth in the Clubman and 12th and 13th overall was Paul Davies and Bowling, half a second splitting them at the chequered flag, as Michael Stanley took the win in the Rookie class, ahead of Drummond and Gyte, Walker, Pearson and Elleray.

The third and final race of the weekend saw Higlett extend his winning run, but the story was of Pete Fishwick taking a hard-fought second place.

Fishwick was less than four seconds back of the race-winner after eight laps of the Donington Park GP circuit, and crossed the line just over a second ahead of Moore and Andy Davies, who were third and fourth.

The Clubman podium occupied positions nine, 10 and 11, with Whitby closing down the early lead pulled by James Sharpe to battle for the win onto the last lap. Whitby held the advantage starting the final circulation, until James Sharpe found a way passed into McLean. Trevor Sharpe followed through and passed Whitby at Coppice and onto the back straight, before the Melbourne Loop saw both Sharpes take a tight line, with Whitby attempting a pass around the outside. A three-abreast charge into Goddards ended with Whitby taking the win from James and Trevor Sharpe, just seven tenths separating the three at the line.

With Michael Stanley absent from the final race with a fuel issue and Hall retiring, Gyte and Drummond went head to head for Rookie honours. Drummond eventually came out on top in the scrap, but when penalised for a jump start was docked 10 seconds, handing the win to Gyte.

Higlett leads the championship on 350 points, a whopping 155 ahead of Edmondson, with Andy Davies third.

Higlett Extends 100% Record

Higlett SilverstoneGraham Higlett extended his 100% record for the season, and as a result his championship lead, after taking all four wins at Silverstone.

The 2012 champion looks untouchable at the moment, with Doug Edmondson, Peter Moore and Andy Davies the closest riders to him but some way off the blistering pace set by the current series leader.

Higlett qualified on pole, with Simon Braby and Moore alongside him on the front row. He then sailed to a race one victory aboard his Face to Face Finance sponsored TZR250, crossing the line nearly five seconds ahead of Edmondson and Moore, who spent the race locked in a titanic battle for the two remaining podium spots. Just half a second split them at the flag, and after a race long dice, it was Edmondson took second place.

Andy Davies came across the line in fourth, chased all race long by James Sharpe, who claimed a personal best ever finish in fifth and took the Clubman win. Paul Whitby claimed second Clubman in sixth, leading a five-way battle, which included Trevor Sharpe, who finished third Clubman in eighth, and Rookie class winner Michael Stanley, in 10th.

Race two was much in the same vein as race one, with Higlett taking the win by nearly six seconds this time, while Edmondson and Moore renewed their battle from race one, finishing in the same order at the flag.

Davies ended up in a lonely fourth place, ahead of a seven rider-long train for fifth place. Holding fifth early on was James Sharpe, who fended off several attempts by Whitby to make a pass. Whitby was eventually passed by both Lee Finney and Simon Braby, the two riders coming from the back off the grid after failing to make the start of race one.

Braby sat sixth heading on to the last lap, before making a move for fifth place at the end of the Hangar Straight, holding the position to the line to take fifth. James Sharpe was the leading Clubman in sixth, with Whitby second in eighth and John Walker third in ninth.

The battle for top Rookie was well and truly on in race two, with less than a second covering Stanley and Sacha Gyte at the flag. Stanley claimed his second Rookie win of the weekend and of the season, finishing 12th, with Gyte 13th.

Sunday's opening race saw a shake up of the podium, and while Higlett took his third win of the weekend, Davies took an impressive second place, less than two seconds back of the race winner as the chequered flag came out.

Moore Edmondson SilverstoneBehind, Edmondson and Moore continued to trade positions and paint for that remaining podium position, with Edmondson claiming his third podium finish and third position.

Braby and Finney came home in fifth and sixth, just three tenths of a second between them, with James Sharpe the leading Clubman rider across the line in seventh, with Walker second Clubman in eighth and Whitby third Clubman in 10th, just behind Mike Wake, the three of them involved in a  race-long scrap, with six hundredths of a second covering Walker and Wake in the results.

Gyte took the win in the Rookie class, with Tim Hall keeping himself in contention for the Rookie crown taking second, with Stanley third rookie.

The final race of the weekend saw some of the closest action of the weekend. Higlett disappeared to take his most convincing win, finishing six seconds ahead of a thrilling battle for the remaining podium positions, with four riders going at it.

At the line, less than a second covered positions two to five, with Davies second and Edmondson third, just ahead of Braby, who recovered after he was clattered into by James Sharpe off the start, and Moore, the pair finishing fourth and fifth.

Finney and Wake went at it for sixth and seventh, ahead of a scrap for top Clubman honours, which saw Walker just fend off the attacks of Whitby, half a second the difference at the line, to take his first Clubman win of the season.

Trevor Sharpe claimed third Clubman and kept his title challenge on track, crossing the line two tenths of a second ahead of James Sharpe after a last lap scrap that came down to the chicane, and Gyte, who had been involved in a battle with Trevor Sharpe until contact with James Sharpe, who was attempting to make a move at turn three and dropped him two seconds back, claimed top Rookie honours.

Gyte's wins in the rookie class on Sunday mean he is now just one point off the championship lead, with Stanley leading the way, while James Sharpe leads the Clubman championship by 10 points from Whitby.

Higlett's perfect weekend means he boasts 200 points and leads the championship, with Edmondson second on 140.

Higlett Launches Title Assault

Higlett Snet ReportGraham Higlett got his assault on the 2014 title off on the right foot, taking all four wins from the opening round at Snetterton.

The 2012 champion, who failed to notch a single win in the year of his title defence, looked focused and determined right from the off, qualifying on pole on Saturday morning, with only Doug Edmondson within a second of his time of 2:18:829. 2013 Rookie champion Matt Barber rounded out the front row, a second back of Higlett.

But it was Barber who put up the most resistance to Higlett's dominance over the weekend, and in Saturday's opening encounter it was the pair of them that disappeared at the front, the only two lapping in the 2:16s. Victory went the way of Higlett, as he eventually gapped and dropped Barber, crossing the line four and a half seconds ahead of him at the chequered flag. Edmondson, with a comfortable advantage over fourth placed Richard Sawyer, came home third.

In the Clubman class, Paul Whitby held the advantage for most of the race, dicing with Andy Wheeler for seventh overall with the pair swapping places constantly. However, too much front brake going into Nelson for the final time saw him lose the front and crash out, handing the win to James Sharpe, who bettered Kev Higerty for the Clubman win. Trevor Sharpe was the third Clubman rider across the line.

Sacha Gyte drew first blood in the Rookie class, taking the win and 17th overall, with Michael Stanley, another Club Bike graduate, second and Tim Hall third.

A packed schedule saw the second Yamaha Past Masters race held over until Sunday morning, when the race was unfortunately red flagged after a handful of laps.

While battling for the position of highest Clubman, Kev Higerty suffered a huge highside at the exit of turn one. The race was stopped, with Higerty later diagnosed with four broken vertebrae.

Barber Snet ReportHiglett took his second win in the restarted raced, chased home by Barber, with Edmondson just half a second back, while Trevor Sharpe took the win in the Clubman class ahead of Whitby and Len Whalin, while Hall just edged out Stanley for top Rookie honours.

Sunday's scheduled races saw Higlett complete his clean-sweep, taking victory in race one by nearly five seconds, after shaking off the attention of Barber, who did his best to prevent the former champion from getting into his rhythm.

Barber, making a good start, held the lead early on, before the pair battled for a number of laps, with Barber launching an attempted pass wherever he could, knowing it was his best chance of preventing Higlett from settling into the groove and taking the win.

Unfortunately for him it was to no avail, with Higlett shaking him off and pulling away to take the win with Barber second and Edmondson third.

Top Clubman honours went to James Sharpe, who came from the back of the grid to finish 10th, after a battle with Whitby and Whalin, who finished second and third Clubman respectively, while Gyte returned to the top step of the Rookie podium, crossing the line half a second ahead of Stanley, with Hall third rookie.

Higlett's rout was complete in race four, while a fluffed start from Barber meant he was unable to get away with the race leader, instead allowing Edmondson to have a go. The 2011 Rookie runner-up was unable to challenge for the lead however, and settled for second, with Barber third.

Whitby took his first Clubman win of the weekend in the final race, with Trevor Sharpe second and John Walker third, with Gyte the leading rookie and in the points in 14th.

Higlett's 100% record means he heads the championship standings, with Barber second and Edmondson third, the trio already putting in a  gap to the chasing pack, headed by Andy Davies.

Consistency and four finishes mean Trevor Sharpe tops the Clubman championship after round one with 74 points, while Whitby, on 65, and James Sharpe, on 63, sit second and third.

Consistency for Michael Stanley also means he leads the Rookie championship, with four second placed finishes and 80 points, with Gyte on 75 and Hall on 73.

Higlett Looking To Extend Winning Run At Cadwell Park

Cadwell Preview01Graham Higlett heads to Cadwell Park and the second round of the DFDS Seaways Yamaha Past Masters championship with the series lead and 100% win record, a run he'll be looking to extend at the Lincolnshire venue.

Preliminary checks of the weather forecast however hint that this could be one of the most fiercely contested rounds of the season.

Despite the warm weather, showers are forecast for the weekend, which will upset Higlett's rhythm, as he openly admits to not being a fan of the wet weather. Two of the favourites to challenge Higlett's dominance again are Matt Barber and Doug Edmondson, with both riders proving fast in both the wet and dry. Others likely to challenge the front also include Pete Moore, who comes to Cadwell with upgraded suspension as he looks to improve his lap times further, and Simon Braby, who has impressed so far this season with a number of podiums. Andy Davies and Andy Wheeler will also be tipped to join the fray at the front. Sadly Mike Wake won't be present after his excellent podium at Donington Park.

Clubman honours look set to be hard fought over the weekend too. Championship leader Paul Whitby will be absent from proceedings, leaving previous points to be had, with both Trevor and James Sharpe, who sit second and third in the standings, looking to overhaul Whitby's lead. Expect close racing at the front of the Clubman battle, with John Walker certain to be in the fray along with a confident Paul Davies and pushing on for Clubman wins. Watch out too for a returning Marc Prentice, while Paul Bowling and Kev Marshal will be in the mix, too.

The closest championship being contested is that for the 2014 Rookie crown, with five points separating Sacha Gyte and Michael Stanley. After mechanical issues at Donington, Tim Hall will also be looking to do battle for top Rookie honours, along with Club Bike pilot Lee Huff.

The action starts with Friday practice on July 18, with qualifying and racing on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 July. The class will also be convening for the annual 'Cadwell Curry' in the paddock on Saturday evening.
