Brands GP Update

Dean “Deano” Stimpson kept up his season long domination of the DFDS Seaways Yamaha Past Masters this weekend at Brands, taking a magnificent four wins on the magnificent GP circuit.

Best of the rest was Ben “Smiley” Miles who picked up a brace of three second place pots, with Doug “BBQ” Edmondson only getting onto the second step once to see the points gap to Deano in the overall championship grow to a surely unassailable 147 points – should see the title wrapped up at Cadders!! The pots for third place were shared in a similar way too, with Pete “Manx” Moore taking home three trophies, while Matt “Not A…..” Barber stepped in to pinch one when Pete suffered a DNF in the last race of the day when his #45 seized.

Over in Clubman Cup corner, Dick “The Barber” Sawyer took four wins to secure his championship position too with a big 142 point lead, while Chris “Another MZ-er” Dowling popped up to second spot in three of the four outings over the weekend on a spare bike that Deano built from various bits he had in the garage. Andy “Zebra” Wheeler took the remaining second place finish plus a third in the first of the Sunday races, while Kev “TripleX” Higerty took home the other three third place trophies in what looks like a rather neat result – TripleX triple triples, see what I did there??

Rookies were again thin on the ground at this meeting, and while Pete scored well when finishing the first three races to close in on Matt in the championship, the DNF and Matt taking a maximum score in the final race of the day wiped out the gain and added further to Matt’s lead. It’s still just 34 points between ‘em though, so everything to play for…….

Colin Hastings was due to be out for the whole weekend on the #100 Club Bike, but he suffered a crash in the first race on Saturday and beat himself up fairly well after starting to show he was really getting into it - get well soon Colin!! John “Jock” Walker also had an off at Druids while trying to get back up to speed after a bit of a racing break, although reports suggest he’s just bruised and a bit grazed. Len “Chloe’s Dad” Whalin suffered some handling gremlins in the first race on Saturday, but a loan shock from DTB got him out for Sunday, showing what the YPM Paddock is all about. DTB also raised £££’s for the Craig Jennings fund by running his paddock barbershop once again – nice one!!

Talking of the paddock, Gaz button gets a prize for staying power - he actually turned up for the meeting on Wednesday as YPM-WAG Denise was out riding a track day on his old #87 on Thursday. Once again Gaz twirled many spanners helping numerous riders with various issues over the weekend.

Next Meeting: Cadwell Park – September 14th & 15th
